Situation
McWilliam’s Wines Group has been making quality wines for 6 generations. The business has grown and developed significantly over that time, and as a result, has a distributed network of production and administration facilities, with a centralised data centre at their head office in Chullora, NSW.
Manish Goklaney, Director at Indicium said “McWilliam’s needed to simplify their data storage environment, which had sprawled to over 30 servers, with fragmented file storage, and an old Storage Area Network (SAN). We were really confident we could deliver the right solution for them for the next three to 5 years, in a competitive environment.”
Solution
Indicium’s technical solution team set about the task of analysing the McWilliam’s existing server and storage environment, and designing a solution with the optimal consolidation ratio without compromising performance and allowing headroom for increased processing requirements.
The team won the go-ahead from McWilliam’s with a solution to deliver a 7:1 server consolidation ratio, new HP server hardware, new EMC SAN and a new server / SAN interface network delivering significantly improved performance and high availability. As always, the team had to deliver this solution in tight timeframes.
Indicium’s project management team designed the project schedule to manage all the stakeholders and ensure that the solution was implemented and cut-over on schedule. The engineering team implemented the solution within time and budget, and provided McWilliam’s with quality detailed documentation of their new environment.
Benefits
McWilliam’s Wines now has a best of breed, consolidated server environment, based on a virtualised infrastructure that can support the growth of the business for the next three to five years. They have reduced their server footprint from 30+ to 4, and as a result reduced their environmental impact. In addition to this, the business has increased the capacity and resilience of their storage infrastructure.
